The Gender Odyssey and Gender Odyssey Family conferences are fueled by the energy, skills, and talents of a large group of committed and enthusiastic volunteers, led by the dedicated team effort of our GO conference planning committee. We have a number of committee positions open for this summer’s conference and planning begins soon! Would you like to join our team?

Committee Positions open for GO 2017

Accessibility Coordinator

Tracks specific requests for ASL interpreters (which portions of the conference) and other disability accommodations. Recruits, schedules, and supervises volunteer ASL interpreters. Must be present entire conference week if needed for GO Pro. Otherwise must be present for all of GO and GOF.

Ad Sales Coordinator

Solicits and tracks advertisements for program book. Excellent verbal communication skills. Sales experience preferred. Must be able to juggle multiple priorities.

Art Show Curator (Lead and assistant)

Develops conference art theme, crafts promotional text, handles outreach to artists and arts communities, receives and ships art, sets up and breaks down conference art exhibit. Must be available for the full conference dates.

All-conference Picnic Coordinator (Lead + assistant)

Works with lead coordinator to obtain supplies, run errands, direct volunteers with setup and breakdown tasks, and is responsible for post-picnic closing tasks.

Audio/Visual Coordinator **Position filled**

Coordinates with onsite A/V company. Troubleshoots any A/V changes or adjustments. Responds to presenter requests. Insures that events with films, keynotes, and other A/V needs happen on time. Gets approval for and oversees any audio or video recording of sessions and/or keynotes. Must be available for the full conference week.

Community Housing Team

Works closely with Scholarships, Community Outreach, and Diversity & Inclusion coordinators to determine need. Recruits local residents with rooms/couches/camping space to spare to open their space to conference participants who would not otherwise be able to attend due to prohibitive housing costs.

Events Team

Plans and organizes social events throughout conferences. Coordinates hosts for events such as welcome receptions, family breakfasts, couples dinner, open mic, musical entertainment, etc. Must be friendly, welcoming, and comfortable greeting conference attendees. Time commitment includes twice monthly meetings from Jan. until conference in August. Must be available for the full conference week.

Information and Resources Coordinator **Position filled**

positionfilledCollects and organizes info about local eateries, entertainment, tourist attractions, GLBTQ hangouts, transportation options, maps, etc. Staffs information table during conference hours. May organize/propose interest-based activities during conference (e.g., early morning walk, trip to art museum). 

Kids Day Camp Team (Leads and assistants needed)

    Creates schedule for and runs camp; plans and coordinates activities; arranges for guests (magician, musician, yoga, puppeteer, etc.); purchases snacks and other supplies.  Coordinator will determine volunteer needs and direct said volunteers.  Childcare experience (ages 4-12) a must.  Will need to agree to background check and have (or obtain) current first-aid training.  Time commitment includes twice monthly meetings from now until conference in early August.  Must be available for the full conference schedule running from Aug 24th through Aug 27th all day.

Marketing and Communications Team

Serves as news writer and content developer for the GO Marketing & Communications team. Develops press releases, PSAs, newsletter articles, blogs, social media campaigns, and other materials as directed by the Support Systems Manager and in cooperation with the Social Media and Graphic Design teams. Must be able to juggle multiple priorities and produce quality work under short deadlines. Must be experienced writer/editor.

Photography Team (Two or three positions)

Documents conference happenings and events as well as captures personal images to use for future publicity. Must have good communication skills and obtain necessary release signatures for all willing photo subjects.

Raffle and Onsite Fundraising Coordinator

Coordinates annual raffle (prize procurement, tickets, promotion, ticket sales). Distributes Ask envelopes on event seating and oversees collection of donations. Must be present for all of GO/GOF.

Registration Team (One lead + four assistants)

Data entry – Excel experience required. Monitors online registration; sets up and runs in-person registration during conferences and professional day. Prepares name badges and attendee lists, trains and directs volunteers, and is responsible for daily receipts during event. Work load gradually increases with intense time commitment during event and some follow up. Coordinators must be calm under pressure and have excellent customer service skills. Familiarity with trans community desired. Must be available during full conference schedule.

Security Team

  Supervises team of volunteers during conference to monitor attendee traffic and travel between GO and GOF conference spaces, and especially during GO Free events. Familiar with facility layout and registration process. Strong communication skills required. Must be available for the full conference week.

Staging and Logistics Coordinator

Coordinates the team that helps set up rooms and event spaces, posting signage, initial conference load-in, Kids Camp set up, art show set up, and/or help with daily clean up and final load-out.

Teen Program Coordinator (One lead + two assistants)

  Youth programming development includes leading workshops, coordinating teen conference projects, and facilitating brainstorming sessions with youth.  Candidate should have good facilitation skills; be social media savvy; and have familiarity with trans* and gender-nonconforming youth (identities, language, issues, etc.).  Time commitment includes twice monthly meetings from now until conference in mid August.  Must be available for the full conference schedule running from Aug. 24th through Aug. 27th all day. 

Vendor Coordinator (One lead + one assistant) **One spot open**

onespotopenWorks with organizations interested in tabling at conference; handles email correspondence; directs at-conference set up and break down. Must be available for the full conference week (Aug. 23rd through Aug. 27th).  

VIP Care Coordinator **Position filled**

Coordinates volunteers to serve as personal assistant to VIPs, keynote speakers, visiting officials, and other special guests. Must have reliable transportation and valid driver license.

Volunteer Coordinator (lead + two assistants)

Calls for and recruits volunteers for the conferences; maintains contact info and organizes volunteer schedule; acts as point person for volunteers during the conference. Excellent organizational skills are a must and ideal candidates will have good communication and people skills. Monthly in-person meetings necessary as are occasional phone meetings. Excel experience required. Must be available for the full conference schedule.
